The Biometrics team within Terumo's EMEA Clinical & Medical (C&M) organization is a close-knit team, bringing together biostatistics, SAS programming and Clinical Data Management expertise. The team partners closely with Clinical and Medical Affairs colleagues to generate high-quality clinical evidence supporting our medical devices, from study set-up and data collection through analysis and dissemination of results.

Job Summary

As our Biostatistician & SAS Programmer, you will take statistical ownership of clinical studies, from study design and sample-size calculations to statistical analysis, interpretation and communication of results. You will combine strong biostatistical expertise with hands-on SAS programming, working closely with our programmers, Data Management and Clinical and Medical Affairs colleagues.

At the same time, you'll help shape how Biometrics evolves by bringing new ideas around statistical methodology, automation, analytics and the opportunities created by AI.

Job Responsibilities

  • Act as lead biostatistician for assigned clinical studies, taking statistical ownership from study design through analysis, interpretation and dissemination.
  • Provide statistical input into study design, endpoints, sample-size calculations, randomization and Clinical Investigation Plans/protocols.
  • Develop, review and approve Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs), TFL specifications and related statistical documentation.
  • Stay hands-on with SAS: develop, optimize and automate programs, analysis datasets and statistical outputs, and develop or debug SAS macros where required.
  • Work closely with SAS programmers, fellow biostatistician and Clinical Data Management colleagues, coordinating and reviewing programming activities where appropriate.
  • Partner with Medical Affairs and Clinical colleagues to understand their questions, select appropriate statistical approaches and translate analyses into clear, meaningful conclusions.
  • Critically assess study results, clearly explaining what the data supports, what it does not support and what conclusions can be drawn.
  • Contribute statistical expertise to data-management activities, including CRF/FRS review, UAT, data-review activities and endpoint-related edit checks.
  • Ensure statistical deliverables meet scientific, regulatory and quality requirements and maintain appropriate traceability across the data lifecycle.
  • Help shape the future of Biometrics by contributing to standardization and automation and exploring new analytical, visualization and AI-driven approaches that improve quality and efficiency.

Profile Description

  • Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics or a closely related quantitative discipline.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in biostatistics and clinical research, ideally within a medical device, CRO, pharmaceutical or biotech environment.
  • Strong, hands-on SAS expertise is essential, including the ability and willingness to program independently.
  • Solid experience across clinical study statistics, including study design, sample-size calculations, SAPs, statistical analyses and interpretation of results.
  • Experience working across multiple studies, clients or changing priorities is particularly valuable.
  • Knowledge of R and/or Python is an advantage; exposure to Power BI is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex statistical concepts and results into clear messages for non-statistical stakeholders.
  • A collaborative, approachable and solution-oriented mindset, combined with the confidence to challenge constructively, listen to different perspectives and work towards practical solutions.
  • A strong quality and process mindset, balanced with the pragmatism, adaptability and ownership needed in a fast-moving medical device environment.
  • Fluency in English, confidence working in an international and multicultural environment, and willingness to travel occasionally within Europe and potentially beyond.

Offer

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to take real ownership of your studies while having the autonomy to organize your work and deliverables. At the same time, you'll be part of a collaborative Biometrics team where colleagues exchange ideas, discuss statistical methods and support each other across studies.

You'll work closely with Clinical, Medical Affairs, Data Management and SAS Programming colleagues, giving you the opportunity to contribute throughout the study journey, from design and analysis to the interpretation and communication of results.

You'll also join the team at a time when Biometrics continues to evolve. Alongside delivering high-quality statistical work today, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to standardization, automation, new analytical approaches and the growing role of AI in biostatistics.

With an international scope, varied clinical studies and a working environment that values quality, collaboration, openness and adaptability, this role offers the opportunity to keep developing your statistical expertise while helping shape how the team works going forward.
