Scientific Communication Specialist Oncology

Job Summary

As a Scientific Communication Specialist, you interact with a multitude of internal stakeholders in a rapidly evolving environment (medical affairs, marketing, clinical operations…) and external stakeholders (medical experts, editors of scientific journals, congress organisers…) in order to create compelling communication regarding Terumo’s Interventional Oncology product line, using different channels, with different audiences in mind.

Job Responsibilities

1.Medical and scientific communication.

You are the first point of contact for oncology related scientific literature activities.  You coordinate the clinical data analysis and you prepare reports of trial results for scientific meetings.  In addition, you follow up the manuscript writing with third parties and ensure their timely completion of final study reports.  Furthermore, you coordinate and create an oversight of scientific publications and presentations in the field of IO and our IO treatments, and share up-to-date relevant scientific oncology content with your colleagues, bringing the outside in.

You maximize scientific communication opportunities through the creation of tools and content for advisory boards, medical booths and externally facing meetings.   Next to this, you like to challenge yourself by finding new and innovative way to bring your messages across, incl social media and other digital channels

2.Collaboration with Business Unit Marketing and country teams

Collaboration with marketing is key in this role.  You lead literature review within a therapeutic area and translate evidence into comprehensive materials for the marketing and country teams.  You provide medical and scientific input and expertise in the creation of promotional materials, events (e.g. product launch).  In addition, you provide medical and scientific input and expertise to ensure short and long-term marketing and business plans are in line with current scientific trends and available scientific evidence.  In addition, you contribute to Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) mapping in the different specialties involved (IRs, oncologists, organ specialists, …) and assessing opportunities to engage with them.

3.Clinical Development activities

You create oversight of all investigator-initiated trials (IIT) requests in order to ensure good follow up and to come to an informed decision, and you ensure good communication about the IIT strategy.

You help in study start-up: you co-write the medical part of study protocols, investigators brochure review, assist Competent Authorities & Ethics Committees applications and respond to medical and scientific questions trial execution phase.

4.Regulatory activities.

You work with regulatory affairs and legal department to ensure that all written documents are scientifically accurate.  In addition, you support the medical aspects of marketing authorization applications (= reimbursement of medical devices)

Profile Description

You have a Master or Phd degree in (Bio)Medical/Science and can look back at a first successful experience as a scientific communication specialist in a similar environment. You know how to work with external medical affairs specialist, building successful relationships.  Of course, you are familiar with publication guidelines and practices. 

Thanks to your analytical mind, you can transfer big data sets into easy to read and compelling output, and your excellent communication and presentation skills help you to bring these messages to a varied audience. 

Used to change, you can shift priorities in line with the business updates and adapt the implementation plan accordingly.  

Next to English, you are fluent in one other European language.
